Belgos is renowned across London for one thing - its delectable mussels and chips. And as is usually the case with places that specialise in one thing - they do them wonderfully. I love recommending this place to friends who are looking for somewhere lively to spend a birthday or another celebration. The basement restaurant is filled with long canteen-style tables, and the atmosphere can be raucous on evenings at the weekend (helped by the large selection of beer and the infamous 'mixed sticks' - a line of shots in a long wooden pole). Mussels come in a variety of stocks and are served in the large black pans that they were cooked in. And don't forget to order the golden and crispy fries - you'll need something to mop up all of that lovely mussel liquor with!
