Overview to the Sanctuary and what makes this spa special

The Sanctuary is one of London's city centre spas. Despite its central location it still has space for 24,000 feet of treatment rooms - these are places that you can go to on your own and get pampered with an individual treatment that could be anything from a massage to a facial to a manicure. There are also pools and saunas. It is a female-only spa where women of 16 and over can feel free to relax. Nudity is allowed in all of the facilities.

The Sanctuary's specialist Skin spa is renowned for having a high calibre of skin treatments. They offer special treatments such as microdermabrasion and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). If you are confused about what these treatments are, the staff are helpful and will be able to talk you through the options.

The highly trained treatments specialists are a feature of the spa - it prides itself on having experienced staff to carry out treatments such as massages and facials.

The Sanctuary is an all-female venue. There is also a focus on giving you a chance to relax and spend time with your friends - throughout the spa you will find lounge areas where you can sit in your big fluffy white gowns and relax with your friends. A popular area to do this is the koi carp lounge - an area filled with low, comfy seats and tables. At the centre of the lounge is a large pool filled with koi carp.

One of the pools in the Sanctuary has a swing that sits above the pool that is free for customers to use. It is the swing famously sat on by Elizabeth Taylor in a film called 'The Stud'.

The Atrium Pool

There is a special room called the Rasual, where guests are given mud face and body masks. Once it has dried a tropical rainfall style feature opens up to wash up the mud. There are few spas in the country offering this treatment.

The Covent Garden Spa is their original and flagship spa. At the spa you will find facilities including the following:

  • 40 treatment rooms
  • Specialist manicure/ pedicure suite
  • Spa pools
  • Heat and steam rooms
  • A La Carte restaurant (in the White Orchid Restaurant - you can enjoy champagne, afternoon tea or a three-course lunch)
  • The Koi Carp Lounge (a lounge area where you can sit and chat with your friends, read a book or have a snooze)
  • Sound Wave Therapy beds (these are special beds in the Sleep Retreat where you can sleep in comfortable surroundings)
  • Steam rooms
  • Jacuzzis
  • Exercise pool

If you purchase the basic spa package (see below for more details) you will be able to use the facilities at the spa. However, if you want any of the specialist treatments (see below for what constitutes a specialist treatment) you will need to pay extra for this.

tip It is a good idea to book at least a couple of weeks in advance, to avoid disappointment. So if you are a tourist coming to London it is worth booking this before your holiday. You can book online, at the venue or via telephone. See below for booking details.

Prices for entry and treatments

The prices for the facilities at the Covent Garden Sanctuary varying significantly depending on what session you come to the spa for (see the opening times above for more details). For example, the affordable package is the evening package at the spa.

The day or evening package will allow you usage of the 2 lounges, 2 pools, 2 spa pools, and 1 complimentary treatment (either a 'sleep retreat' or infra-red treatment - to find out more about what these are, check the official website).

Whilst you are at The Sanctuary you may want to consider splashing out on some extra treatments. Options for extra treatments include facial and skin treatments, health massage, cellulite and body contouring, body treatments, hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, threading, tanning and waxing. The spa has recently started a new initiative where you can pop in for just one treatment. So if you don't have a whole day or evening to dedicate to a spa trip, you could simply head in for a facial or a massage etc. You will definitely need to book the treatments at least 2 weeks in advance (see above for the number to book on).
